| The Gypsy Horse has been selectively bred by British and Irish Gypsies and Romany people for generations. The Gypsy travelers use brightly colored flat carts and living wagons, or vardos, and desired a strong, heavy, docile and showy horse to pull them. The Shire, Clydesdale and Dales Pony are part of the history of the breed. The Gypsy Horse is also known as The Gypsy Vanner, Gypsy Cob or Colored Cob. The proper Gypsy Horse will have generations of selective breeding behind them and it is our mission to continue to breed exceptional examples of the breed that honor the Gypsies who envisioned them and to be a part of future generations of proper Gypsy Horses. Proper Gypsy Horses will exhibit the following breed standards: Medium sized draft horse body with medium to heavy bone Short back, sloped shoulders and strong neck with a sweet head in proportion to the overall body Well rounded withers and broad chest Powerful hips and rounded croup Closer hock set of a pulling horse Large round hooves Abundant feather beginning at the back of the knees and near the hocks Feather extending over the front of the hooves Ample mane, forelock and tail A more refined, sweet head than a typical Shire Flat, tapered nose, heavy Roman nose is not acceptable Docile, willing and intelligent nature The Gypsy Horse is not a color breed and can be found in many colors, black and white Piebald being most common. Skewbald describes red and white, brown and white and tri-colored horses Blagdon describes a solid colored horse with white splashed up from underneath. Many other colors are also seen in the Gypsy Horse. The traditional Gypsy Horse is 13-15.2 hands. There are several registration societies that exist to preserve, protect and promote the breed, we are members of...
